Journey of a Beer Hunter

Hello to all my fellow beer lovers. My journey began in 1985 in Chicago,Il.  I knew from the beginning I was destined to be a beer hunter.  In college I never caught on to the Bud craze.  Never liked the taste. Skunk always came to mind as a description for smell and taste. I dabbled in the likes of Rum,Vodka and Tequila for a short ride but came to the conclusion I was always more interested in the Journey not the Destination. I moved to Chicago and noticed I had more options in the beer category. Millers Pub a famous icon of Chicago offered Grolsch and Guiness. This is when the journey began. However I would have labeled myself a Beer Snob from the late 80’s through the early 2000’s. My definition of a Beer Snob was : one who judges what beers others drink. Up to about 2006 I was mainly drinking Newcastle,Guiness,Negra Modelo and the likes. The heavens opened up when a longtime friend moved to Fort Collins Colorado. This is where this new term Craft Beer reared its beautiful head. A behind the scenes tour at New Belgium in the early 2000’s transformed me from a Beer Snob to my new title of Beer Geek: one who does not judge what others drink but has a passion for the craft beer scene. By 2011 I was still in the Porter Stout world. Most of my evolution into the craft beer journey is given credit to my brother. He has always been one step ahead in the beer lovers journey. The journey took a wonderful turn in 2012 when my brother introduced me to a little known App called Untappd!! This is when I made the final transformation to a Beer Hunter: one who never judges but never stops to search for a beer not had!! Untappd – Facebook for beer lovers. Absolute genius!!

The purpose of my blog is to tell stories of my beer hunting escapades and answer any questions about beer in general from differences between ales and lagers to understanding the many different genres of beer. For too long beer has taken a backseat to wine. It’s time for all to appreciate the different nuances of beer and not just associate it with getting drunk at frat parties!!

Cheers to all!! Please send me some beer stories!
